OSS – Offsite Solutions Scotland site visit
OSS recently combined the AGM and board meeting with a factory visit, sightseeing and also the first ever social evening in the very far North of Scotland.
NORSCOT hosted the two day event, with members and associates travelling the length and breadth of Scotland to attend.
Some members & associates flew from Edinburgh to Wick while others took the scenic drive north. With everyone meeting at the Mackays Hotel Wick for a light lunch on the Thursday afternoon prior to the AGM. Following the refreshments the meeting commenced at 1.45pm. New directors were appointed, Clare Reid, Neil Sutherland, Sarah Mathieson, Matt Stevenson, Nicola Jackson & Callum Grant and a special thanks to chair Calum Murray for taking OSS to where it is today all in all a very productive AGM and the board meeting following on thereafter which concluded at 5.30pm
Thereafter the board were treated to some fabulous footage of the beautiful Caithness & Sutherland scenery and local attractions. Following this a Gin tasting, hosted by the Hotel and professionally presented by the Award winning Rock Rose Gin from Dunnet Bay Distillers.
Prior to dinner , the group had their picture taken on the shortest street in the World , Ebenezer Place measuring a mere 2.06m (6ft 9in), the group then enjoyed a lovely three course meal with locally sourced produce, before retiring to sample the local malt whisky , Old Pulteney.
On the Friday morning, the group had an early start leaving the hotel around 8am. They were transported by one of the Norscot mini buses to the factory for a tour of the manufacturing facilities. The tour was very comprehensive and consisted of visits to the timber frame panel and kit production, Timber windows and doors and AluWood composite windows and door workshops, as well as the PVCu windows and doors workshop. The tour also included a visit to the showroom, VR Room and a walk through the external storage and yard area.
After the factory tour it was back on the mini bus for a quick viewing of the beautiful scenery of Caithness. The scenic tour began with sights of the sandy beach at Dunnet, the Rock Rose Gin distillery, close up view and pictures of the Castle of Mey , then onto Gills bay ferry terminal and the MeyGen sea wind turbine also to John o Groats to see the timber frame development Norscot had provided to Natural retreats group. A quick stop was made for a group photo at the most northerly point of the UK and then back toward Wick, passing the impressive Castles of Freswick, Keiss & Girnigoe before a close view of Wick Golf Club and Ackergill tower the tour concluded at John O Groats Wick Airport for those flying back to Edinburgh at 11.45am
For the enduring car drivers and lone motorcyclist we then headed to the Trinkie a fresh water swimming pool for a viewing and in the distance the impressive Beatrix windfarm which has generated very welcome jobs to Wick and the wider Highland economy, then past our Local Whisky distillery Old Pultney before finally arriving back to the Mackays hotel for 12.15
